Advertising
After watching the ASPCA commercial with Sarah Mclachlan, there were a lot of advertising techniques that I noticed. The commercial opens with Sarah sitting on a couch petting a dog. The music in the back round is playing "in the arms of an angel..." Sarah is telling us how many animals are abused by their owners, while they show a series of pictures where animals are injured(music still playing in back round). Many of the pictures are disturbing and it causes the viewer to feel bad for the animals.
The main technique used in this commercial is celebrity endorsements, which is Sarah Mclachlan. They also used a type of jingle which was one of her songs. The "jingle", is a familiar song that is meant to bring emotion to the viewer. Finally the visual, they show a series of photos that show sad and injured cats and dogs. This technique is meant to make the viewers feel bad for the animals. They make the viewers have sympathy for the animals so that they will sign up to help them by paying a monthly fee. This commercial is very persuasive, it pulls you in by triggering your emotions. Who can sit there and look at all those poor helpless animals and not feel bad?

Observing
Once I reach the water, I hesitate to go any farther, I look down and see the carcass of a dead fish. After seeing that, I decided not to put my feet in. I walked away from the water and laid out a towel to sit on. Looking around, I began to take notes. I notice the many people scattered throughout the beach, the occasional scream, and the loud noise as jet-skis zoom by. I am scanning the beach, on the look out for any unusual activities to blog about. Unfortunately all I really manage to see are those darn seagulls bothering a young child for a crumb.
So for five minutes I decided to stare at them. I found it quite entertaining to watch, how protective they are of their food. As soon as they were able to get the slightest chip, the bird would fly off away from the group to eat in peace. I also noticed how the seagulls seemed to call out, and attract more birds to eat. I found it to be odd that they were so protective of their food, but yet they made noise for others to come. If I wanted to eat without disturbances I would probably be a little more quiet. Overall, I enjoyed this exercise. It gave me an excuse to go to the beach, relax, and gather my thoughts.

About Me
Hey my name is Jayme, I am from Tampa Florida, and I enjoy going to the beach, traveling, and boating. I was born in Tampa and I have lived there my whole life. I guess you could say I live a relatively normal life, I have an older brother, a younger sister, and two incredibly spoiled dogs. Our family has always lived on the water, and we always take advantage of the great weather that Florida has to offer.
I have had the privilege to travel with my family and enjoy some of the many different cultures. I have traveled to a few countries in Europe, and throughout the U.S. Although I must say my favorite of these would be Austria. My family traveled to Austria over winter break for a ski trip, and I have wanted to go back ever since. We also go to the Florida Keys every year over the summer for diving and fishing trips. In the future I hope to visit, China to taste the different foods, and see the many unique people and places.
On my spare time, I enjoy shopping, hanging out with friends, listening to music, and going to the movies. I listen to a variety of music such as rap, hip hop, rock, and country, and I am always open to new genres. I am excited to see what this class has to offer, and I am sure that it will be a great experience. I hope that you enjoyed reading this, and i am looking forward to hearing what my classmates have to say.
